The former Celtic striker claimed on It’s All Kicking Off! on March 11 that neither the Gers nor Celtic had it easy in goal. The 31-year-old has been tipped to return after being observed by members of Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions lineup.

Sutton was hesitant to select a candidate who has fought their way back into the England team because of his Parkhead heritage, but he later acknowledged the former Manchester United and Crystal Palace player has been “very, very good” at Ibrox.

“Hmm, don’t know whether I should say this but there is a guy who I think deserves a chance,” Sutton remarked (43 minutes and 45 seconds in).

The goalkeeping choice is a little bit murky because Rangers’ Jack Butland has excelled this season.

“I believe Gareth has invited people to watch him; one could argue that he won’t be doing anything. However, it’s not an easy task to keep a clean sheet at Rangers or Celtic; at crucial situations, you need to be really focused.

“He has performed admirably for them.”
