As they get ready for the most recent leg of their treble attempt at Easter Road, Philippe Clement is adamant that Rangers won’t be sidetracked by their crucial Europa League matchup with Benfica the following week.
After their audacious performance in Lisbon on Thursday night, the Light Blues are now just 90 minutes from the final eight in Europe. After an exciting first leg at the Estadio da Luz, the tie is evenly balanced at 2-2, but Clement and his team think another memorable night at Ibrox under the lights may send them to the next round.
When asked if he was sure the Germans could stay focused on the task at hand, the large Belgian answered, “200 percent.” Without a question. My team hasn’t ceased working hard in that manner during the entire season.
“A good example is that they were present at the League Cup final a few days after the Betis match. My group is eager to take home more trophies, and we understand that in order to defeat Hibs, we must play well.”
In their two Premiership encounters with Clement’s table-toppers this season, Montgomery’s team has struggled mightily against Rangers, conceding seven goals in 180 minutes at Ibrox and in Edinburgh while managing just one goal. These outcomes, along with several other disheartening failures, put pressure on a manager who had only started working in the city in September.
