QPR slap £7m price tag on ‘quality’ star amid Wolves, Stoke City and Celtic transfer interest

The defender from Queens Park Rangers, who has experience in the Premier League, is drawing interest from both Wolves and Celtic this summer.

Reports suggest that Stoke City has also entered the race for Jake Clarke-Salter, the center-back from QPR, alongside Celtic, indicating a growing interest in acquiring his services ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Having showcased a strong performance throughout the season with 33 appearances in the Championship, Clarke-Salter’s contributions have made him a sought-after asset for potential suitors. The tall defender played a crucial role in QPR’s efforts to avoid relegation under Marti Cifuentes.

Initial speculation linked Celtic with a move for Clarke-Salter, but now it seems that Stoke City, another Championship club, is considering making a bid, as reported by journalist John Percy of The Daily Telegraph. Percy mentioned Stoke City’s intention to bolster their squad during the summer, with Clarke-Salter identified as a primary target, potentially commanding a transfer fee ranging from £5-7 million. Additionally, there’s interest from other Premier League clubs.

Wolves have also expressed interest in signing Clarke-Salter, seeing him as a player capable of making the transition to the Premier League. Despite having only one Premier League appearance during his time with Chelsea, the 26-year-old defender has caught the eye of clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Having moved to QPR from Chelsea in 2022 after failing to secure a first-team spot at Stamford Bridge, Clarke-Salter has become a key figure at Loftus Road, amassing 49 appearances for the club. His current contract with QPR runs until the end of next season.

Clarke-Salter is a Chelsea academy graduate.

Speaking about his love for the defender in December, Cifuentes said: “I knew Jake already from his time [on loan] at Birmingham because Xavi Calm my assistant was working at Birmingham for a lot of his games.

“We knew of his quality so I am not surprised about the level of performance he has had over the last few games. But at the same time we need to realise he came from a period when I first arrived where he was coming back from an injury.

“But we have a fantastic medical department and physios who have all contributed to give me a good picture on what are the risks and opportunities for each player on weeks like this.
