Shaughnessy And Jones Named Players' Player Of The Season - News - Portsmouth

At Pompey’s 2023–24 awards dinner, Conor Shaughnessy was named Men’s Players’ Player of the Season.

After the defender’s game-winning goal against Barnsley last night sealed the League One title, it completes an incredible couple of days for him.

Emma Jones, a striker, was chosen as Player of the Season by her teammates, and the women’s team has also guaranteed the trophy in their division.

At the gala ceremony, attendees chose Marlon Pack of the men’s team as the Player of the Season, and Jones won her second award of the evening.

Additionally, they had to choose Pompey’s Goal of the Season, and Owen Moxon’s excellent goal against Derby triumphed over attempts by Terry Devlin, Nicole Barrett, and Ava Rowbotham.

Mitch Aston won the Academy Player of the Season award, and Georgie Freeland was named the Women’s Young Player of the Season.

Marlon Pack, the captain, received the Community Player of the Season award in recognition of his outstanding work off the field.

And Leanne Howard won the Fan of the Season award thanks to her outstanding support of the Blues.

Lloyd Ashton, the stadium announcer at Fratton Park, hosted the event. Andrew Moon, the Pompey commentator for BBC Radio Solent, answered questions from the audience.

He spoke to Blues boss John Mousinho, alongside skipper Pack and keeper Will Norris, later chatting with women’s team head coach Jay Sadler, captain Hannah Haughton and midfielder Leeta Rutherford.

Following dinner, a raffle and auction were held to raise money for Pompey in the Community and the academy. Former Blues striker Mick Quinn spoke after dinner.

I’ve seen six Portsmouth promotions, but this one is my favorite, says the gaffer. The team and supporters have proven unstoppable

For One Day, Gaffer 50-year-old Copnor resident Jeff Harris evaluates Pompey’s 3-2 victory over Barnsley, which sealed the League One championship…

What a fantastic method to win League One, then
When we fell behind twice, you could sense the worry, but I remained composed because I knew this team would come back stronger.
This team is constructed differently; it has a siege mentality, as evidenced by the 25 points it has earned this season despite losing positions. When the team and its supporters come together, they become an unstoppable force, as evidenced by the fans also performing at their highest level.

It’s a team effort because last season, if we had been behind 2-1, the supporters would have rallied around the players.

Rich Hughes is the best addition this team has ever made, but he has completely changed this organization.

I take it that you’ve seen quite a few promotions by now?

My favorite Pompey promotion to date was that sixth one.

You have to savor these nights while you can because they are unique in our 43-year history of supporting Pompey, and you never know when we will run another promotion.

I am, however, conflicted. Reaching the Premier League in 2003 is the ultimate goal; you want to play at that caliber, see elite players, and travel to elite venues.

However, the Championship is naturally at our level, so Tuesday night was extremely important. It is, without a doubt, my favorite promotion.

How did you feel about the exhibit?
Points were awarded for exceeding performance. While there were moments when we controlled the ball well and maneuvered around, we hurried through the first twenty to twenty-five minutes of play.

Barnsley has a tendency to press you up the pitch and overload their forward positions. They overloaded the full-back areas and took advantage of those gaps to score both of their goals.

The stronger teams have discovered this weakness in our arsenal, just as Derby did with Joe Ward’s two goals.

We weren’t impoverished, I believe, just below our typical standards. We weren’t playing at our usual levels when we didn’t have the ball, but we were good when we did.

A moment, please. Your ratings show a 10.

Conor Shaughnessy deserves all the credit because his goal got us back to the championship.

He attempted to imitate Toddy by leaping into the crowd after that, but the stewards ultimately stopped him.

Looking at his defending, Devante Cole is rapid and for a couple of runs Shaughnessy stayed with him, which surprised me, I didn’t realise he was that fast.

For the vast majority of the game, he kept Cole quite quiet – and there was that bullet header in the 89th minute to win it, of course!

He didn’t just glance it in, you heard the thud. The goalkeeper didn’t even see it until the ball had gone past him. Will Norris – 9

Zak Swanson – 6 (Joe Rafferty – 7)

Sean Raggett – 8

Conor Shaughnessy – 10
