Portsmouth hero Kusini Yengi reveals position over future after firing his side to Championship

Kusini Yengi, fresh off a stellar rookie campaign at Fratton Park, is eager to participate in Pompey’s Championship journey.

And after having a significant impact at PO4 this season, the Australian striker has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League with the Blues.

Yengi was on the scoresheet on a night of glory, as John Mousinho’s side won the title on Tuesday night with a 3-2 success over Barnsley.

With that, he now has 12 goals in his outstanding debut campaign, during which the 25-year-old also achieved success on the international scene.

After joining from Western Sydney Wanderers last summer and agreeing to a two-year contract with a club option to extend for a further year, Yengi’s profile has skyrocketed.

Although many will be observing the striker’s development, the powerhouse is content to be honing his craft with Pompey.

Upon being asked if he intended to remain at Pompey, Yengi responded, “Obviously.” This season has been incredible, and I adore this club.

I feel like I still have a lot to learn and grow as a player, and everyone has welcomed me so wonderfully.

The prospect of competing in the Championship the following season excites me greatly.

“A champion player is nice, but I’d rather be in the Premier League.” Next year, we’ll give it our all!

Yengi emphasized how much he enjoys being a member of Pompey’s first team, a group that has forged a unique bond over the course of this season’s championship run.

The Socceroo believes that relationships have now formed among Mousinho’s group that will endure a lifetime.

Yengi went on, “I knew we could do this when I came over and spoke with the gaffer and saw the squad and the first couple of training sessions.”

“The squad is tight with each other.” It’s a fantastic group. We work really hard in training every day, and we get along so well off the field.

“Friendships last a lifetime, and when our careers come to an end, I believe we will reflect back on this particular moment, this squad, and everyone who was a part of it.”

“We’ll always remember this special group, but I hope we stay in touch if people go their separate ways in the coming years.”
