POMPEY BACK: Peter Crouch sends message to Portsmouth FC after League

Pompey announced on Tuesday night that they would be returning to the Championship.

After an exciting evening of action at Fratton Park on Tuesday, Portsmouth was declared the League One champions.

In their match against Barnsley, John Mousinho’s team trailed 1-0 going into the last seven minutes. However, wild scenes were created on the South Coast when Conor Shaughnessy’s winner in the 89th minute and a penalty from Colby Bishop set off the comeback.

With two games left in the season, Pompey’s victory ends their 12-year ban from the Championship and puts them eight points ahead of Derby County.

Peter Crouch congratulates Portsmouth on title victory

Many former players were quick to congratulate Mousinho’s team on their accomplishment after it was confirmed that Portsmouth had won the championship.

After Pompey’s victory over Barnsley, former midfielder Pedro Mendes left a comment on their Instagram post, and Peter Crouch also wished them well.

During his 21-year professional career, the current TV pundit for TNT Sports had two stints with Portsmouth. He joined from Queens Park Rangers in 2001 and returned to Fratton Park for the 2008–09 season after three years with Liverpool.

After leaving Portsmouth after 87 games played, Crouch scored 34 goals. He then congratulated the team on their recent success on social media, recognizing several people he knew from his time there.

Crouch posted on Twitter, saying, “Congrats, Pompey! It’s wonderful to see club icons Baz and Kev still very much involved.
