‘Heart and soul’: Tribute to Portsmouth lion heart as Fratton pays homage to a favorite

According to John Mousinho, Fratton Park’s stirring salute to Sean Raggett was an appropriate remembrance of their longest-serving hero.

As the defender accomplished his goal of leading Pompey into the Championship, the manager of the football team praised the “heart and soul” he had given to his team.

Mousinho feels it was deserved acknowledgement for a man who will now be seen as a Fratton great.

After Raggett won the League One trophy and had a standout performance, he received a particular salute from Fratton Park.

The 30-year-old came in second to Marlon Pack, who took home the title of The News’ Pompey Player of the Season. In the end, there was only 1% separating the two.

As his efforts were recognized, Pompey supporters erupted in cheers, “Raggett for England,” in honor of the man who arrived at PO4 in 2019.

Mousinho believes it was a just reward for a man who will go down as a great Fratton.
“Everyone knows Sean has given this football club his heart and soul over the past five years,” he remarked. He’s been that close numerous times, and I was part of one of those occasions in the play-off semifinal when Portsmouth was on the verge of elimination from the league.

Sean’s move to do that is fantastic because there have been some incredible starts that have faltered toward the end of the season.

Sadly, the long-range shot was unsuccessful!

“Sean has that capability, even though it wasn’t quite the shot against Fulham that went in.” Those who watch our training footage will notice that he does that quite a bit when training.

However, I believe it was a worthy homage to a person who has made a significant contribution to this club’s history. I’m ecstatic for him.

Wigan ended Pompey’s 17-game unbeaten streak, but the outcome did not dampen the mood on a celebratory day.

After celebrating Tuesday’s title victory over Barnsley, Mousinho admitted that his team wasn’t at their best mentally and physically.

We weren’t there, but I can see why, he continued.

“It was far from ideal that we were prepared mentally and physically for this game.” Compared to the 45 games prior where we were proficient, this one was incredibly distant.

However, Wigan is a strong team, and they punished us in the first half to demonstrate that. We toss it in the trash and move on to the following weekend.
