‘what of the future’: Portsmouth boss’ contract message over prospect of squad break-up

John Mousinho is determined that while Pompey pursues their championship goal, contract negotiations will not take place.

Although glory this term is now within reach, Mousinho has expressed his hope that the 15 players whose contracts expire this summer are eager to continue on the journey under his direction.
The Blues manager has also showered praise on those whose Fratton futures are still up in the air for concentrating on his team’s promotion push.
Today, Pompey travels to Bolton with the goal of defeating Ian Evatt’s team in order to secure a spot in the Championship and possibly the League One championship at the Toughsheet Stadium.
Despite their contracts expiring on July 1, many players appear to have maintained focus based on the length of the team’s 15-game winning streak heading into the match.

That group includes Toby Steward, Liam Vincent, Haji Mnoga, Harry Jewitt-White, Josh Martin, Matt Macey, Ryan Schofield, Josh Dockerill, Marlon Pack, Joe Morrell, Sean Raggett, Joe Rafferty, Connor Ogilvie, Lee Evans, and Zak Swanson.
“The important thing for us is that we know we have players out of contract,” Mousinho stated.

The fact that those players weren’t concerned about the circumstances heading into the summer is a credit to them.

“We haven’t had to discuss it with any player on an individual basis.”We’ve made it clear to agents and other representatives that we won’t be looking at anything until the summer. It would be a bit of a distraction if we looked at anything before finding out what league we’re in.In the event that a contract is discussed, one person chooses one before the others.

The guys have been great about it, so we’re parking that until the end of the year. We also hope that everyone who has participated would like to be involved in future projects.
