BREAKING: Portsmouth eye award-winning Bristol Rovers talisman as transfer plans accelerate

Pompey are trailing Bristol Rovers’ goalscoring midfielder Antony Evans as their Championship plans get underway.

According to The News, the Blues are interested in the 25-year-old with an eye for the spectacular as they prepare for a summer overhaul.

Pompey know they need to add forward-thinking talent to their squad as they return to the second tier after a 12-year absence.

And Evans fits the bill after an outstanding season with their League One rivals, during which his reputation for bringing goal threat to the table skyrocketed.

Despite his side finishing in the bottom half of the table, the former Everton trainee made 19 goal contributions, including 10 goals and nine assists.

One of those came in the form of his spectacular free kick against Pompey in Rovers’ 2-1 victory at the Memorial Ground in December.

Evans has built a reputation for eye-catching finishes, direct running, and the ability to finish with either foot during his four years with the Gas.

As a result of his impressive form this season, he was named Bristol Rovers player of the season, having made 52 appearances for Matt Taylor’s side.

Evans would command a fee with a year left on his current contract, with Rovers aware they risk losing the former Blackpool loanee for free this time next year.

Over the last season, the Scouser has demonstrated his versatility by playing as a 10 as well as a deeper midfield term position.

Evans, like many of Pompey’s signings, appears to fit the bill in terms of being able to make an immediate impact on John Mousinho’s first team while also potentially growing as an asset.

The Blues understand that they must raise the talent level in Mousinho’s squad as they prepare to compete in the Championship next season.

All areas of the pitch appear to be under consideration for reinforcement, though the Pompey manager has stated that he is generally satisfied with his current striking options.

Mousinho has 18 players under contract and has offered new deals to Marlon Pack and Connor Ogilvie. Zak Swanson and Joe Morrell are still in talks after the club decided not to exercise their 12-month options.
