‘HARD DECISION’ – Portsmouth boss unsure of future of 2022 signing, contract up this summer

John Mousinho, the manager of Portsmouth, has acknowledged that they must make a difficult choice about Zak Swanson’s future.
This summer, Portsmouth must determine whether to hold onto the right-back.

The 23-year-old Swanson’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and he will become a free agent in late June.

According to a report by The News, Mousinho stated: “We know Zak is a great player, so we need to look at how we can get him properly fit, healthy, and fine. He is definitely a player with high potential.”

He’s one of those whose contract we haven’t fully discussed, especially in light of the injury.

“He’s put himself in a good position when he’s played, and he’s been in really good form, but we take everything into consideration and go from there.”

Portsmouth must make a choice.

Since joining Portsmouth, Swanson has struggled with injuries, so extending his stay could be risky if he can’t stay healthy.

However, he is a valuable player to have in the squad when he is available, offering depth and competition in his position.

The League One winners have a difficult decision ahead of them because he is still young and has room to grow and develop.

Mousinho’s team is getting ready for life in the Championship, and there will be a lot of comings and goings at Fratton Park throughout the busy summer.

They have one more game left in the current season, away to play-off-chasing Lincoln City this coming weekend, where they will try to recover from their most recent 2-1 home loss to Wisconsin Athletic.

Swanson joined Portsmouth in 2022 and has since played 44 games for the Hampshire team across all competitions, contributing three goals and three assists.

He progressed through Arsenal’s academy system and played regularly for the Gunners at several youth levels.

The Cambridge native, however, was loaned to MVV Maastricht in Holland back in 2020 to gain some experience, and he never appeared for the Premier League team’s first team.
