Portsmouth is targeting a Crystal Palace starlet as the Championship recruiting push begins

Portsmouth is targeting a Crystal Palace starlet as the Championship recruiting push gets underway.

John Mousinho has stated his desire to have several new players signed by the opening of the transfer window.

Additionally, The News has learned that Pompey is still interested in Crystal Palace’s Jaydan Raymond as preparations are made for a busy summer of Championship hiring.

After the Blues won the League One title in spectacular fashion last week, the transfer picture has become more apparent.

Depending on which division they were operating in the following season, Pompey’s football team has been working to two lists of targets prior to the summer window opening in June.

With the shutters opening for summer business, they hope to replicate the flurry of activity they displayed last year, now that they have clarity on that front.

Within days of the window opening, players like Conor Shaughnessy, Will Norris, Christian Saydee, Anthony Scully, and Terry Devlin were signed, and the goal is to do the same this year.

Raymond, a 20-year-old who has four Trophy appearances for the Eagles, was considered by the Blues during the January window, but a deal never materialized.

The gifted attacker has played for Wales’ under-21 team and has not been used as a substitute for the Londoners in the Premier League.

Mousinho thinks it is to his team’s advantage to know ahead of time where Pompey will be playing next season.

When it comes to competing with rivals at a higher level, the 37-year-old is well aware of the magnitude of the task ahead, but Mousinho is taking comfort in the fact that a transfer business plan is in place.

“It helps us that we’ve got a head start in terms of preparation now that we can look at the list we’ve been compiling, which is the Championship list,” the speaker stated.

Over the summer, we can examine that and what it means for us. Hopefully, we’ll be in a strong position to make a few deals, similar to last summer, by the time the transfer window opens.

“People talk about some of the big budgets in this league, and then we have teams entering the Premier League that are receiving parachute payments,” Obviously, we’re working with well-established, experienced clubs.

The fact that this football team has a plan in place, in my opinion, is a plus. Many hands are working behind the scenes to ensure that we’ll be well-positioned for the upcoming year. We will undoubtedly ensure that we participate and give it our all.
