Plymouth Argyle are being linked with a move for the current Northampton Town loan man along with fellow Championship sides Preston North End and Swansea City.

Here is a look at three alternatives who the Pilgrims should consider if they aren’t able to get the Scotsman…

Beni Baningime

His contract at Hearts expires at the end of this season and he would be a shrewd pick-up by Plymouth. The 25-year-old has been a key player for his current team in the Scottish Premiership since his move up the border in 2021.

He rose up through the academy ranks at Everton and went on to play 12 times for the first-team at Goodison Park. The Toffees also loaned him out to Wigan Athletic and Derby County as a youngster to help him get some experience under his belt.

Connor Barron

Like Baningime, the Aberdeen man is also due to become a free agent later this year. At the age of 21, he would be a great long-term option for the Pilgrims in the middle of the park and has the potential to grow and develop in the future.

Barron, who is a Scotland youth international, has broken into the Dons’ senior team this term and they are likely to face a battle to keep him. He has been on the books at Pittodrie for his whole career to date., 3 Marc Leonard alternatives Plymouth Argyle must consider amid links to Brighton midfielder

Jensen Weir

If Plymouth miss out on Leonard, his Brighton teammate could be a useful alternative target. The 22-year-old has spent this campaign in League One with Port Vale.

His chances of breaking into Roberto De Zerbi’s starting XI are slim meaning an exit could be a sensible choice by him in the next transfer window. The ex-Wigan Athletic has also had temporary stints away from the AMEX Stadium at Cambridge United, Morecambe and Blackpool in the past to get game time.
