‘Negotiations have already’ – Plymouth Argyle stance on Preston North End linked man’s future

The Plymouth Argyle player, who is currently out of contract, has been linked with a move to Preston North End (PNE). Preston will need to thwart Plymouth Argyle’s intentions if their reported interest in Mickel Miller turns out to be accurate.

According to reports this week, Preston are considering signing the wing-back on a free transfer as his contract with Home Park is set to expire next month. Alongside Preston, League One promotion contenders Portsmouth and Oxford United are also reportedly interested in the 28-year-old, who featured in 34 league games for Plymouth Argyle last season.

Miller joined Plymouth in the summer of 2022 after being released from Rotherham United. His two-year contract is nearing its end, but there is optimism within Plymouth that they can retain the services of the versatile winger. Neil Dewsnip, Plymouth’s Director of Football, who took charge after Ian Foster’s departure and steered the club to safety, addressed Miller’s contract situation last month.

Dewsnip mentioned, “His contract does expire at the end of June. Negotiations have already commenced, so we are well into the process. I’ve seen on social media rumors suggesting he might leave, along with another player. I’m not quite sure where that’s come from, but that’s how it is.”

“We’ve been in discussions with both players (Miller and Brendan Galloway) and their agents, and talks are ongoing. Both players have performed well in the Championship and are keen to remain at this level, as would anyone. So, I don’t anticipate many obstacles as long as we remain in this league.”

Miller missed the final three games of last season due to a knee injury sustained in a surprise home victory over Leicester City. He was expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks due to ligament damage. PNE fans might remember Miller for his challenge on Ryan Ledson during the March clash between Preston and Plymouth. Despite the incident, Miller only received a booking, a decision that Ryan Lowe, Plymouth’s manager, was not pleased with.
