ATLANTA (AP) — On Friday night, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Phoenix Suns 129-120 behind 32 points and 15 assists from Trae Young.
Young, who was left off of the roster for the forthcoming All-Star game, finished with a 7 for 11 3-point shooting percentage and three steals. He had an average of 27 points and 10.9 assists going into the match.
“Trae is obviously hoping to play in the All-Star game. Every player in this league aspires to play, according to Hawks head coach Quin Snyder. He’s not playing for attention, which is one aspect of his style of play. You observed that he is playing to win tonight. I’m not sure if Trae’s unusual actions tonight were motivated by anything more than normal. You’ll need to question him. Simply said, I thought he was playing well.
Young declared that he would go if the league requested him to cover an injury. an All-Star.
For Atlanta, which has won three consecutive games, Bogdan Bogdanovic finished with 23 points after coming off the bench and making four of his seven long-range attempts. Jalen Johnson scored 16 points, while Dejounte Murray scored 22.
“You take the shots that (Bogdanovic) hits for granted sometimes,” Snyder remarked. He’s always prepared to fire. He is able to make challenged shots.
In attendance for Kevin Durant’s lone trip to Atlanta, a large number of supporters were wearing jerseys. With 35 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists, he led the Suns. Adding 24 points was Devin Booker.
However, Young was the game’s MVP, making the majority of the Hawks’ 17 3-pointers and even making a shot from behind the backboard once. However, since that basket was placed after the whistle, it was not considered.
Early on, he made a few deep threes, and the Suns attempted to slow him down by trapping him.
“Once I get it out of the trap, the deep threes pull the defense out and open up the court for my teammates as well as myself,” Young remarked.
The Suns came into the game having won nine of their previous 11 games, all but three of which were away games. They entered the game having committed 17 turnovers and being outrebounded 43–38.
“We weren’t in the best of moods to begin the game,” Suns head coach Frank Vogel stated. “We weren’t as focused, energetic, and aware as we were in the previous two games.”
At the close of the third quarter and the start of the fourth, the Hawks went on an 11-0 run, with five players on the court during the run. After three quarters, Atlanta was up 104-95.
Saddiq Bey of Atlanta did not play in the second half after spraining his ankle late in the first. With one of his seven shots, he finished with two points.
After missing 19 games due to injury, Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter (knee) played without a setback on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers. He is anticipated to participate in the Warriors game on Saturday.
