The Phoenix Suns defeated the Brooklyn Nets 136-120, which was a noteworthy victory. For the first time since the infamous trade that brought him to the Suns in exchange for Mikal Bridges and other players, Kevin Durant made his way back to Brooklyn. On Wednesday night, Durant talked about the dynamics of connecting with Nets supporters.

Though Kevin Durant understands it’s all love, his first Suns game in Brooklyn was difficult.

Durant spoke at a press conference held after the game on a couple exchanges from the big game. He saw some hecklers, but he also saw the affection that the New York supporters have for one another.

“I enjoy keeping the throng quiet. It was simply some irritating folks yelling at me, ‘I hate you, KD!’ I glance over and say, “Man, I love you!” In New York, playing is always enjoyable. According to Erik Slater of ClutchPoints, Durant stated, “They appreciate great ball.”

The storied forward played for the Nets for three and a half seasons. He was sidelined for the whole 2019–2020 season due to an Achilles injury. But after that, he helped the team to two consecutive postseason trips.

It’s possible that Durant reached his peak with the Nets in the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals. He and Brooklyn forced the Milwaukee Bucks, the eventual NBA champions, to play seven games. The gifted forward gave the series a commendable effort.

SUGGESTIBLE

Most notably, he scored 48 points in Brooklyn’s Game 7 defeat and recorded a 49-point triple-double in Game 5. With a clutch last-second shot, he almost put the Bucks’ season on the line, but his foot was on the line. As a result, the game went into overtime, where the Nets lost.

His play on the court during his tenure with the Nets was commensurate with his zeal during the Milwaukee series. Even though his wishes did not come to pass, Durant will always hold a special place in the hearts of Brooklyn Nets supporters.

Mikal Bridges, a previously adored forward for the Suns, is now leading Brooklyn. The two teams that Durant traded for in a spectacular deal in 2023 appear to have bright futures.
