This crowd has really impressed me tonight. It wasn’t as exciting to move to New Orleans sixteen years ago as it has been throughout the previous four or five years.

And that’s a credit to the group of players they assembled, the players themselves, and the general enthusiasm of the basketball fan base for the sport.

For that reason, visiting New Orleans is always enjoyable. The sport is appreciated by the fans. They respect the players and show their appreciation for them.

Thus, it was satisfying to arrive here and succeed.”- Kevin Durant

Jan 19, 2024; New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant (35) looks on against the New Orleans Pelicans during the second half at Smoothie King Center.

In New Orleans, Kevin Durant had a fantastic performance. The seasoned forward finished with 26 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists, and 2 blocked shots.

But Devin Booker, his teammate, blasted the Pelicans with a game-high 52 points that evening.

“I simply made an effort to be combative right away. This was a significant game, in my opinion. This is a squad that leads us in the standings and that we might face in the playoffs. In his postgame remarks, Booker said, “I was just trying to set the tone early and be aggressive, and everybody put me in the right spots.”

New Orleans trailed 41-28 at the half, losing the contest. The Pelicans struggled, finishing the game with a season-low 23.8% shooting from beyond the arc and 3 of 20 (15%) in the first half.

The team’s shooting performance last night was a far cry from their previous outing against the Kings, where they set a franchise record with 25 three-pointers. But they only managed ten against the Suns.

With Booker putting up a scorching 60% shooting from the field and a 54.5% three-point shooting percentage, Phoenix shot 46 of 93 from the field at a 49.5% clip.

The Pelicans finish 16-14 in the Western Conference and 25-18 overall on the year.
