On Saturday, March 16, Shams Charania of The Athletic broke the story using his X account, which was originally Twitter.

In an attempt to return to the NBA, Thomas signed a contract earlier this month to play for the Salt Lake City Stars in the G League. Thomas had a fantastic performance in three games, averaging 32.0 points and 5.7 assists while shooting 40.9% from three-point range and 37.9% from the floor.

In the 2011 NBA Draft, Thomas was selected in the second round by the Sacramento Kings. He played for the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets throughout his NBA career.

Between 2015 and 2017, Thomas enjoyed the best years of his career as a member of the Celtics. While he was a member of the team, he was an NBA All-Star in both 2016 and 2017 and was selected to the second team of the league in 2017. In 158 games for the team throughout those years, he averaged 25.5 points and 6.1 assists.

He participated in NBA action for three clubs in his final season: the Lakers, Mavericks, and Hornets. In 22 games, he averaged 8.4 points, 1.5 assists, and 1.3 rebounds.

According to Hooprumors, Thomas agreed to a 10-day contract worth $183,704 dollars.
