Phillies Said to Be Without Two Elite Free Agents

This offseason, the Philadelphia Phillies haven’t accomplished anything thus far.

You would expect they would look for outside assistance after missing their World Series aspirations the previous year.

Rather, they brought back the most of their key players from the 2023 squad and re-signed pitcher Aaron Nola.

The Phillies don’t seem to be “out” on adding any players, but it doesn’t seem like they’ll be adding two impact starters.

Jordan Montgomery or Blake Snell will not be pursued by the Phillies, according to Matt Gelb via B/R Walk-Off.

Over the past few years, the Phillies have made significant financial investments in starting pitchers.

Zack Wheeler, Taijuan Walker, and Nola have lucrative contracts with them.

If the Phillies are going to spend money, it makes sense to go elsewhere.

The Phillies’ bullpen is one area where they might use some assistance.

Having lost Craig Kimbrel to free agency, their closer is unclear.

However, the Phillies might be interested in any of the several excellent closers that are available.

Josh Hader is the most well-known, but he wants a big salary.

Finding a replacement outfielder is another position that the Phillies would be interested in.

Bryce Harper is now playing first base full-time, so perhaps the Phillies should try to get more defensive support.

Former National League MVP Cody Bellinger is one guy who might fit in.

He can play center field at a high level, despite his hefty cost.

Not to add, he was among baseball’s greatest hitters the previous season.

The Phillies should continue to work on strengthening their squad even though they might be done investing on starting pitchers.
