Eagles star’s $70 million deal was named
Howie Roseman, general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles, has no problem bringing in veteran playmakers to bolster a team capable of winning a Super Bowl in recent years, and his decisions have typically been highly successful.
Prior to Roseman and the Eagles’ victory over the Dallas Cowboys to sign the former three-time All-Pro linebacker, Philadelphia had already signed veteran safety Kevin Byard from the Tennessee Titans shortly before the NFL trade deadline.
Through his first five games in Philadelphia, Byard has already had a significant impact on the Eagles’ secondary, recording 42 total tackles and one interception.
Roseman has added veteran defenders Robert Quinn, Ndamukong Suh, Byard, and Leonard, among others, over the last two seasons.
Although Byard has helped stabilize an uneven secondary, a general manager with Roseman’s level of aggressiveness may find even greater value in the flexibility that Byard’s contract’s cap hits offer.
This was a difficult decision because of Philadelphia’s intricate usage of long-term contracts with vacant years, according to Schatz. Haason Reddick, for instance, has a cap figure for this season of just less than $7 million. However, as of right now, his cap amount is expected to soar to $20.9 million the next year, with $14.8 million in dead money sitting on the cap during a 2025 void year. James Bradberry serves as an additional illustration, with a cap amount of $3 million for this year, $4.7 million for the following, $8.25 million for 2025, and an absurd $22.25 million for 2026. The last few years are essentially meaningless because Bradberry’s deal will likely expire after2024, but there will be a significant amount of dead money from him on the Eagles’ cap moving forward.

However, as Schatz notes, Roseman only gets partial credit for Byard’s contract, unlike the structure of Jalen Hurts Hurts’, which continues to yield big returns for the Eagles.

Roseman and the Eagles have been able to restructure contracts in a way that has allowed Philadelphia to consistently be in the running for players who they feel will improve their chances of winning the Super Bowl. This includes Zach Ertz, the tight end who was recently released, and other players.
The College Football Hall of Fame Inducts Former Eagles
The College Football Hall of Fame induction this year will have a sizable Eagles contingent.
This year’s class of inductees will include former Eagles stars Brian Westbrook, Troy Vincent, and Jeremy Maclin, who had successful seasons at Villanova, Wisconsin, and Missouri, respectively.
Due to their influence on the team, Vincent and Westbrook have already been enshrined into the Eagles Hall of Fame.
