Eagles sign ex-49ers RB to reserve contract

The Philadelphia Eagles have had a 1,000-yard rusher in each of the last two seasons and have ended with a top-10 rushing offense four times in a row. Since the Eagles have depth at several positions, why wouldn’t they add to the one that will be crucial to their success in 2024?

Tyrion Davis-Price, an Eagles running back, was signed to a future contract by Philly, which should keep him with the team until spring organized practice. Davis-Price’s agency, Elite Loyalty Sports, revealed the news.

Over the previous two seasons, the 2022 third-round pick played in seven games for the San Francisco 49ers. Despite accumulating 120 yards, he failed to score a touchdown. He was placed on the practice squad for the San Francisco 49ers after being waived by the Niners in December.

D’Andre Swift, the Eagles’ top rusher from the 2023 campaign, may be going away. Although Kenneth Gainwell is entering his fourth NFL season and will need to show a significant improvement this season if he wants to stay in Philly over his rookie contract, the team still has him under contract. It is hoped that Gainwell can grow into a No. 1 back.

Although Davis-Price is unlikely to become the Eagles’ bellcow back, he will have an opportunity to join the squad and may see some carries in the future. Whether the Eagles sign a proven top back is still to be seen. Jalen Hurts, the team’s quarterback, is also one of their most reliable runners. If Philadelphia doesn’t sign a top-tier running back, their rushing attack won’t go away entirely.

Tyrion Davis-Price may only play in the NFL one more. The Eagles could be the side to surprise him; they’ll assess every player to make sure their run game remains competitive.
