Oklahoma basketball: Sooners add two transfers to 2024-25 roster

Porter Moser and his Oklahoma basketball team have been hard at work this spring, aiming to fill the void left by seven departing players since their last game. The team has secured commitments from two recruits for the 2024 class and recently added a couple more through the transfer portal, especially focusing on bolstering their backcourt after losing several guards.

They announced the addition of transfer guard Jadon Jones from Long Beach State last weekend, followed by sharpshooting guard Brycen Goodine from Fairfield University just over 24 hours later. Additionally, they brought in former DePaul guard Kobe Elvis via the transfer portal this month.

Jones, standing at 6-foot-5, brings valuable experience with four years and 112 games under his belt, averaging 10.2 points and 28 minutes per game throughout his career. He’s known for his defensive prowess, having been named the Big West Defensive Player of the Year this past season while also maintaining solid shooting percentages.

Goodine, on the other hand, is recognized for his three-point shooting abilities, boasting a 47 percent average from beyond the arc during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 13.9 points for Fairfield and is not just a stationary shooter but can also create scoring opportunities off the dribble.

However, a challenge for the Sooners is that Jones, Goodine, and Elvis each have only one season of eligibility left.

In terms of incoming freshmen, the Sooners have secured commitments from Kuol Atak, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Ft. Worth, Texas, and Dayton Forsythe, a 6-foot-2 combo guard from McCloud, Oklahoma. Atak is a four-star prospect and Forsythe is a three-star prospect, both adding depth and potential to the team.

This marks the third consecutive season that Oklahoma has essentially rebuilt its men’s roster, coinciding with Moser’s tenure at the university.

Despite these additions, the team is still short two players from the seven they lost last season. Out of the departures, three players had no remaining eligibility, while four others entered the transfer portal.
