JUST IN: Former Oklahoma DE Announces His New Destination

Reggie Grimes has decided to return home.

Having served as a starting defensive end at Oklahoma for two years from 2021 to 2022, Grimes took to Twitter on Sunday night to announce his commitment to completing his collegiate football career at the University of Memphis.

The 6-foot-4, 278-pound player, originally from Antioch, TN, near Nashville, showcased his skills at Ravenwood High School before joining Oklahoma. As a true freshman in 2020, Grimes participated in eight games and later secured a starting role as a sophomore, making significant contributions in 18 total tackles across five starts. His performance improved further in 2022, featuring as a regular starter with 10 starts out of 13 games and contributing 18 tackles. However, injuries limited his appearances to just four games in 2023, leading to a redshirt year to preserve his eligibility, with two seasons remaining.

During his time at Oklahoma, the former 4-star recruit played in 38 games, started 15 times, recorded 43 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and 7.5 quarterback sacks. He was recognized as an Under Armour All-American and ranked highly by ESPN and Rivals.

Grimes’ decision to join Memphis marks the second consecutive year an Oklahoma defensive lineman has transferred to the Tigers, following Josh Ellison’s move last year, who went on to make 30 tackles for Memphis in 2023.
