BREAKING NEWS: Oklahoma State Lands Oklahoma Sooners Transfer Wide Receiver

Oklahoma State is taking a receiver away from Norman.

Gavin Freeman, an Oklahoma transfer, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Sunday. With an already loaded offence back, Freeman provides another option for Alan Bowman to pass to.

Freeman has appeared in every OU game over the last two seasons, but has not received the production or role he desires.

In 2023, Freeman was a valuable member of the Sooners’ offence, with 19 receptions for 95 yards and a score. His best performance last season came in the Sooners’ victory over Arkansas State, when he caught four passes for 19 yards and one touchdown. Freeman also demonstrated his other powers in that game, scoring another touchdown on a punt return.

Before last season, Freeman’s role was further curtailed, although he still had some standout moments. His most meaningful play came in a victory over Kansas. Freeman caught a career-long 41-yard throw, one of only three catches that year.

In 2022, Freeman demonstrated his dual-threat abilities by rushing seven times for 71 yards and one touchdown. At 5-foot-8 and 189 pounds, Freeman’s elusiveness could be showcased again in Stillwater next season.

Although certain athletes, such Trace Ford last year, have transferred from OSU to OU, Freeman is changing the script. The committment is a significant boost for Mike Gundy’s team as it prepares to negotiate a new-look Big 12 next season.

Last season, OSU finished 10-4 and travelled to Arlington for the Big 12 Championship. With plenty of returning talent on both sides of the field, OSU should be a conference contender again next season.

Additions like Freeman only boost the Cowboys’ prospects of winning their first conference title since 2011 and possibly making their first College Football Playoff appearance.
