Swansea City set to make Notts County striker their top target

Luke Williams expressed his desire yesterday to bring in a striker this summer, with strong indications pointing towards Macaulay Langstaff, his former player at Notts County, being the potential choice. However, acquiring Langstaff may come with a significant cost for Swansea City.

After being at the club for four months, Williams has observed that Swansea lacks the upfront presence needed to score sufficient goals for a serious Championship campaign. Langstaff’s impressive record at Notts County, with 70 goals in 90 league games, suggests he could fill this gap for the Swans.

However, Swansea won’t be the only ones monitoring Langstaff’s performance, especially after his notable 29 goals this season as Notts County returned to League Two. This kind of performance often attracts interest from higher-level clubs.

Although Notts County struggled after Williams’ departure in January, Langstaff’s successful spell under Williams makes him likely to welcome the opportunity to work with him again. Yet, questions remain about his ability to step up to the Championship level at the age of twenty-seven.

Wales Online has reported Wrexham’s interest in Langstaff as they prepare for their return to League One. Additionally, other Championship clubs are also rumored to be interested in him.

Securing Langstaff’s services would likely require a seven-figure fee, which could significantly benefit Notts County in their League Two campaign. Williams emphasized the need for a new striker, acknowledging the importance of natural finishers who can consistently score goals.

Jerry Yates is expected to leave the club this summer, with doubts about his fit into Williams’ style of play. Langstaff’s addition would be viewed positively, given his successful transition to League Two and impressive goal-scoring record. While stepping up to the Championship is a challenge, Williams’ familiarity with Langstaff’s abilities makes him a candidate worth pursuing.
