Kieran Maguire: Nottingham Forest now set for ‘Very Significant’ punishment

Nottingham Forest will receive a “very significant” fine at the least after they accused Premier League referees of being biased.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest have also lost “goodwill” from fans as a result of their online outburst.

Forest took to Twitter after their 2-0 loss to Everton on Sunday (21 April) to publish a statement on “extremely poor” refereeing decisions.

The club claimed they were denied three penalty decisions during their trip to Goodison Park after complaining to the PGMOL that the video assistant referee in action was a Luton Town fan.

Forest have since published two more tweets on their official account revealing that they have submitted a formal request to PGMOL to release audio recordings to the public.

Nottingham Forest to be fined by FA for online outburst

Maguire believes Forest are now set to face a huge fine “at the least” after implying that referees are biased.

The FA have no choice but to charge Nottingham Forest with regards to not just the initial tweets which came out after the match on Saturday but also Forest deciding to double down with their subsequent comments.

This is likely to involve, at the very least, a very significant fine but Evangelos Marinakis can afford to dig deep given his considerable wealth.

However in terms of the optics, no matter what you think of referees, implications that they are biassed is overstepping

Nottingham Forest have lost an awful lot of goodwill from this, especially from many people who thought that they were harshly treated with regards to the charges.
