Breaking News: New York Giants set to make a surprising trade in the 2024 NFL Draft

The New York Giants have many needs heading into the 2024 NFL Draft. Many consider quarterback the most glaring need on their roster.

Many think the Giants could opt for a quarterback with their first pick in the NFL Draft. The question becomes, will the quarterback they want fall to them with their sixth overall pick?

According to Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports, the real mystery is whether one they like will be available at pick No. 6. If not, they would have to trade up. And they might be willing to do that. But only if the right quarterback is still available.

New York Giants Quarterback of Choice

So, which quarterback are the Giants willing to risk future draft capital to trade for in this year’s draft?

UNC quarterback Drake Maye is the one that has caught the eyes of the Giants.

One league source said he believes that if Maye somehow gets past the Washington Commanders with the second pick, which is far from a certainty — the Giants would consider making an aggressive offer to the New England Patriots to move up from sixth to the third overall pick to draft him.

Daniel Jones Could Be Out

After a surprising playoff appearance in 2022, the Giants fell to a disappointing 6-11 season. Most of the blame fell on quarterback Daniel Jones and the offense. Lack of production and consistency typically falls on your quarterback, and that is no different for the Giants.

Daniel Jones played in only six regular-season games this past season and generated only 1,115 yards of offense in those games. The team’s criticism of Jones has been public throughout the last couple of seasons since head coach Brian Daboll took over.

Brian Daboll Needs a QB

Daboll got the most out of Daniel Jones in 2022. The Giants were 15th in scoring offense and fourth overall in rushing offense. They were also in the top ten in turnovers lost on offense, with only ten fumbles and six interceptions.

2023 was not the same story. Daboll had three different starting quarterbacks and was 26th in rush offense and 31st in pass offense.

Daboll has proven his ability to lead an offense when he has had an elite quarterback leading his offense. In his last season as an offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, they were third in scoring offense, ninth in passing offense, and sixth in rush offense.

Could Daboll mortgage draft picks by taking his future star quarterback? We will find out on April 25.
