Union St. Gilloise has declared that they and 22-year-old defender Matthew Sorinola have reached a mutual termination agreement for his contract. After joining the team in the summer of 2021, the former MK Dons defender made 16 appearances while scoring one goal. He played 31 games and scored twice while on loan at Swansea in the EFL Championship the previous season.
Sorinola has had difficulty making the first team since moving back to Brussels in the summer. Sorinola’s position has declined as a result of the acquisition of Alessio Castro-Montes and the rise of Casper Terho. He was free to sign with another club in January, but his initial contract with the team was set to expire in the summer. For the young defender who started his career in the Fulham Academy, there should be no shortage of options in England. In the summer of 2017, he enrolled in the MK Dons academy.
