Retirement still far off for Captain Lewington.

Dean Lewington expects to play for MK Dons far into his forties and has no plans to retire just yet. Last Tuesday against Wrexham, the 39-year-old celebrated his 900th game for the team by receiving his third red card of his career. Nevertheless, Lewington is eager to assist Dons in returning to League One, if not higher.

Around Christmas, Lewington passed Swindon Town icon John Trollope to become the player with the most appearances for a single club in EFL history. However, he told Adrian Chiles of 5Live that he does not have an end goal in mind that would prompt him to consider retirement.

“I feel really good now, so we’ll see how this season goes and then see what’s on,” he stated. “I think I’m capable of playing longer, and I would like to.” However, I just need to keep playing for as long as I can without having any goals in mind for the game I want to finish.

We are barely three or four points away from the automatic berths. The objective is to pursue the top three. Though there is still plenty of football to be played, our focus is on the future.”

Despite his desire for a top flight and worldwide recognition, Lewington, who has played in the third and fourth divisions for the duration of his career, acknowledged that he ‘wasn’t good enough’ and expressed satisfaction with his current accomplishments.

“I have no regrets, and I’m content with the way my career has turned out,” he continued. You deal cards, and you play them. I was just not good enough, but then again, not everyone can play in the Premier League or represent their country. I have enjoyed my profession and travels, and I have made an effort to make the most of what I have been given.”
