MK Dons and Gillingham to miss out on Doncaster Rovers attacker.

MK Dons and Gillingham are poised to miss out on signing Luke Molyneux as Doncaster Rovers prepare to tie up a new deal for the winger, according to reporter Pete O’Rourke on X.

The attacker sees his current contract at the Eco-Power Stadium expire at the end of next month and has been able to weigh up his options. However, Grant McCann’s side are set to keep hold of him as they prepare for another year in League Two.

Molyneux, 26, has been on the books of the Yorkshire outfit since joining them back in 2022. He helped them reach the play-offs in this past season but they lost at the semi-finals stage to Crewe Alexandra.

As per journalist O’Rourke on X, he has emerged on the radar of fellow fourth tier teams MK Dons and Gillingham over recent times. The duo will have to look elsewhere for targets though as he prepares to commit his future to his current club.

Retaining the services of Molyneux would be a big boost for Doncaster Rovers.

He has made 101 appearances for them since joining them two years ago and has scored 14 goals, 11 of which came in the last campaign as they secured a late charge into the top seven.

The Bishop Auckland-born man started his career at Sunderland and rose up through the academy ranks of the North East outfit.

He was a regular for the Black Cats at various different youth levels and went on to play 13 times for their first-team as a youngster, as well as having loan spells away from the Stadium of Light at Gateshead and Hartlepool United to get some experience under his belt.

The latter then snapped him up on a permanent basis in 2019 and he went on to become a key player at Victoria Park.

Molyneux fired 18 goals in 111 outings for the Pools during his time there and helped them win promotion from the National League in his third year.
