For MK Dons, In-form Newport County will be a harsh challenge.

In advance of their Saturday trip to Stadium MK, Mike Williamson has cautioned against making too much sense of Newport County’s league standing.

Although Graham Coughlan’s team is currently 15th in League Two, they are the best team in the division, having amassed 15 points out of a possible 18 points, surpassing teams like Stockport County, Mansfield, Wrexham, and MK Dons in that time frame.

Despite gaining 10 points during that time, the Dons are still in the running for promotion. Since Williamson assumed leadership of the team in October, they have only lost once at home in the league. They are currently four points shy of the automatic positions.

Williamson stated that his team will need to be at their best when the Welsh team arrives at Stadium MK to face the hot-shot Exiles.

He declared, “They’re the most in-form team.” “We’ve seen them, and they seem so full of energy, hardworking, and able to make opportunities out of nothing. They have tremendously good players, can get to you, and pack the box with bodies. For us, it will be challenging.

“We frequently discuss aiming to win every measure, and psychologically, that’s a significant one. We have to be attacking from the start and prevent the other defense from settling in and finding a rhythm. Both the number of physical confrontations and the amount of ground traveled will be high. Making sure we finish the tedious tasks will provide us a stage on which to perform our forward-thinking work.”

In November of last year, the teams played to a thrilling 0-0 draw at Rodney Parade. The first half of the match was tight, especially before the Dons started to dominate the second half.

Williamson stated: “We got a little more control in the second half, and we’ll have to expect that again. It took a while for the game to settle.” We want to play the way we want to play, but first we must earn the privilege. And it’s challenging to accomplish that up against a squad like Newport, who never give you a break.”
