MK Dons Boss Labels League Table As “Irrelevant” Following Six-Match Unbeaten Run

MK Dons Boss Mike Williamson insists that he is not focused on the League Two despite his side now being just two points off of the play-off places.

On Saturday, Williamson’s team defeated a struggling Forest Green Rovers 2-0, moving them up to 11th place in the standings. MK Dons are only two points out of a play-off spot in an extremely competitive mid-pack, despite being four places out of the race. With only six points separating them from 17th place, and with all of the teams in those spots—aside from Morecambe—having at least one game remaining, it is likely that they will move up the League Two standings during the coming weeks.

Since Williamson assumed leadership, the team’s fortunes have drastically changed, and even though he lost his first game in charge, they have not lost in the league since. With four wins and two draws during that unbeaten streak, the Dons are presently among the best teams in the fourth division.

The rest of their season may depend on how well they perform against the aforementioned Morecambe on Saturday, and a defeat might put an end to their current winning streak. But Williamson’s team does have possibly the easiest Christmas schedule in the league after the game against the Shrimps.

They play three games between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day: the first two at Stadium MK against Colchester, which is ranked 22nd, Crawley, who is ranked 13th, and Doncaster Rovers, who is ranked 19th.

Even if the team is playing well and has a chance to qualify for the playoffs before the end of the year, the former Gateshead manager stated that he does not keep an eye on the league standings.

When Williamson spoke with BBC Three Counties Radio, he said:

It doesn’t matter to me. It goes without saying that when the season approaches its last month or six weeks, you begin to pay closer attention.

“At the moment, all that needs to be done is rewatch that Forest Green game to see what went well in the first half and what we could have done better in the second.”

Overall, the manager expressed satisfaction with their performance, saying:

“There were moments when the game we played was truly enjoyable. You could see the patterns we’ve worked on and the goals we have in mind.

“In the second half, the dynamics changed, giving them more chances to press us and take risks. It was a different puzzle, and we had to figure it out.”

through.”
