EFL charges are brought against Dons opponents prior to Saturday’s match.

The EFL has charged Morecambe in advance of MK Dons’ Saturday trip there.

The EFL has penalized MK Dons’ opponents Morecambe for problems stemming from the August salary payment delay ahead of the team’s trip north on Saturday.

In order to enable the continued payment of club wages, the governing body claims that owner Jason Whittingham “failed to adhere to the terms of an Agreed Decision, which required a financial deposit equating to 125% of the club’s monthly turnover to be placed in a separate club account.”

“Funds were deposited in August in accordance with the agreement for a prior failure to pay the club’s wage bill, however those funds were used on September 4 and Whittingham failed to re-deposit the amount, despite requests from the League,” the EFL said in a statement.

“Mr. Whittingham faces personal charges for his failure to re-deposit the monies, and the club faces charges for not meeting deposit account requirements.”The charges will now be considered by an independent Disciplinary Commission with the outcome to be communicated by the EFL once a decision is reached.”

In a rebuttal statement, Morecambe stated: “First off, these are allegations of misbehavior that the EFL has submitted to an independent disciplinary committee, which is scheduled to convene in the next year. Therefore, Bond Group has given specialized sports lawyers instructions to represent the owner and the club at that commission.

“Secondly, the board remains focused on the priority of ensuring that Morecambe Football Club meets all its obligations, which means working with Bond Group to prevent cashflow issues and doing everything within its powers to expedite the process of finding new ownership as quickly as possible.”
