Trio of Softball Players Sign Professional Contracts with New York Rise

Missouri’s Columbia:The New York Rise has signed three University of Missouri softball players to professional contracts, the team announced on Wednesday.The squad will welcome Jenna Laird, Lauren Krings, and Alex Honnold prior to its 2024 season opener.

The New York Rise will play their home games at Bill Edwards Stadium on the Hofstra campus in Hempstead, New York, which is just down the road from Jenna Laird’s childhood home of East Meadow, New York.

With a batting average of.346 in 2024, she ranked second on Mizzou with 73 hits (fourth in the SEC), 14 doubles, 31 RBI, and 58 runs scored. Her slugging percentage was.436 (.432 on-base percentage) and she stole 20 bases.

In 2024, Laird won four SEC Player of the Year awards, was named to the All-SEC Tournament, and concluded her career with eight SEC postseason honours. Along with being awarded 2021 SEC Freshman of the Year, she also received NFCA All-Region, SEC All-Tournament, and a Rawlings Gold Glove for her shortstop play in 2022.

With 246 total games played (all starts), Laird finished her career as the all-time leader in consecutive games played for Mizzou. In terms of batting average (.351, tenth), at-bats (794, second), hits (279, third), doubles (50, fifth), runs (200, fourth), and stolen bases (84, fifth), she concluded her career rated among Mizzou’s top 10. In addition, she is ranked third with 211 at bats, tenth with hits (73), and sixth with runs in a season (58).

The native of West Des Moines, Iowa, Alex Honnold led the SEC in hits this season with 73 and set a Mizzou single-season record with 21 doubles (sixth in the NCAA).

Starting and participating in all 66 games for the Tigers, the 2024 NFCA Southeast Third Team All-Region and All-SEC Second Team Selection led Missouri with a.348 batting average overall. With 14 stolen bases, 51 runs, 73 hits, two triples, six home runs, 37 RBI, and a.552 slugging percentage (.426 on-base percentage) were her stats.

She placed in the top 10 for walks (98, seventh) and doubles (50, fifth) at the end of her Mizzou career. She is the programme leader in doubles (21), ninth in hits (73), and fourth in at-bats (210) in a single season.

Honnold is a lifetime player who has played in 229 games (214 starts) while attending Mizzou.331 hitter with a slugging percentage of.543 and an on-base percentage of.435. She was recognised as a Top 25 Finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year and a 2023 NFCA All-American.

Laurin Krings, a native of Loveland, Colorado, led Missouri in 2024 with a 17–10 record, 35 starts, and nine complete games. He also had a 2.38 ERA across 30 outings.

Throughout the 2024 NCAA Columbia Regional, Krings, a pitcher selected to the NFCA All-Region team, guided the Tigers. She recorded a perfect 3-0 record with an earned run average of 0.56 while starting all four of Mizzou’s games. In his 25.0 innings of work, Krings also struck out 24 batters while giving up just two earned runs on 15 hits and five walks.

In 2024, she was also selected to the SEC All-Tournament and All-Defensive Teams.

In terms of appearances (136, seventh), innings pitched (604.2, ninth), strikeouts (599, sixth), and wins (56, 10th), Krings concluded her career at Mizzou ranked among the top-10. Throughout her career, she pitched a perfect game and two no-hitters.

A professional fastpitch club called the New York Rise will be playing in its inaugural season in 2024. The Rise, an independent team in the AFP (Association of Fastpitch Professionals), is based in Long Island, New York. They will play in the regular season games this summer and the Champion Cup at the end of July 2024.

On June 19, the New York Rise will play their first game of the 2024 season at Chattanooga, Tennessee, against the Oklahoma City Spark. The Rise take on the Florida Vibe in a series to start their home schedule on July 1-3.
