ESPN REPORT: LSU transfer defensive lineman commits to Minnesota Football

LSU transfer defensive lineman Jaxon Howard, the former #1 player in the state of Minnesota, has committed to Gopher Football

The top player in Minnesota’s 2023 class, Jaxon Howard, was making his summer official with the Gophers nearly two years ago. He ultimately decided on the SEC and the LSU Tigers that summer, not picking PJ Fleck and staff out of high school. In the spring of 2024, Howard will return to the Twin Cities to play for Minnesota following a year in which he redshirted for the Tigers in the fall. Howard registered his name on the transfer portal at this time.

Son of former Stanford and Minnesota Vikings defensive end Willie Howard, the 6-foot-4, 240-pound Howard was a highly sought-after Class of 2023 overall recruit. After arriving at LSU last year, he created quite a stir right away. He impressed in the Tigers’ spring game by recording four tackles and a sack. As a freshman, he played in five games. In that 2023 recruiting class, 247 rated the Minnesota native as the 131st-best overall prospect and the 18th-best EDGE. Before signing with the Tigers, he made official visits to Minnesota, Michigan, and Miami in addition to LSU.

It’s simple to see Howard securing a position alongside rush end Danny Striggow in 2024. For Minnesota this fall, Howard should be able to split snaps with Striggow as the team doesn’t have much experienced depth behind the senior from Orono.
