Millwall poised to snap up Japhet Tanganga and then seal these two blockbuster deals – here’s why!

HIGHLIGHTS:
– Millwall’s 2023/24 Season: The team experienced a roller-coaster year, finishing 13th after a late resurgence under Neil Harris.
– Potential Signings: Bringing in Japhet Tanganga and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi could strengthen Millwall’s squad.
– Boosting Attack: The addition of promising forward Milan Smit aims to enhance Millwall’s offensive capabilities for a future top-six finish.

Millwall’s 2023/24 campaign was marked by inconsistency. After missing out on the Championship play-offs the previous season, there were high expectations for the South London club. However, they struggled for a significant portion of the season and at one point, relegation to League One seemed possible due to poor form under Gary Rowett and Joe Edwards, both of whom were eventually dismissed.

Reuniting with their former top scorer and manager, Neil Harris, Millwall experienced a dramatic improvement, winning eight of their last 13 matches to secure a 13th-place finish. Harris now has a solid foundation to build upon, including securing a permanent deal for a key center-back.

Japhet Tanganga:

Despite a reported fee agreement, Tanganga was released by Spurs’ manager Ange Postecoglou at the end of the Premier League season. Harris has expressed a strong desire to sign Tanganga permanently, acknowledging the complexity of such deals. Tanganga’s defensive skills and contributions to set-pieces, including two goals in 18 appearances, make him a valuable asset for Millwall. With only 50 appearances for Spurs across all competitions, a permanent move would provide Tanganga with stability, and his familiarity with Millwall would facilitate a smooth transition. However, Millwall must act quickly as Tanganga’s release has attracted attention from other clubs.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi:

The 21-year-old winger, who had a successful loan spell at Charlton Athletic with 15 goals and eight assists, could greatly enhance Millwall’s offense. Given the interest from other clubs, including Portsmouth, Millwall needs to secure Rak-Sakyi’s services promptly to allow him adequate time to integrate with the squad.

Milan Smit:

MixCollage-05-Feb-2024-02-31-PM-8869Following the end of Michael Obafemi’s loan from Burnley, Millwall’s forward options are limited to Kevin Nisbet and Tom Bradshaw. Nisbet, who has underperformed since his £2m move from Hibernian, and the experienced Bradshaw would benefit from the addition of youth. Millwall is targeting Milan Smit from SC Cambuur, a 21-year-old who scored 19 goals and provided five assists in 36 matches in the Dutch second tier. Smit’s versatility and attacking maturity make him a valuable prospect. While Smit is under contract until 2026, Millwall should test Cambuur’s resolve to bring in a player whose potential aligns with the club’s aspirations for a top-six finish.

Acquiring Tanganga, Rak-Sakyi, and Smit would significantly bolster Millwall’s squad as they aim to build on the progress made under Harris and target higher achievements in the coming season.
