Millwall face ‘fierce competition’ for transfer target, report claims…

Millwall is encountering strong competition from other clubs in their efforts to secure the transfer of Japhet Tanganga from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to a report from The Mirror.

During the last January window, Millwall successfully secured Tanganga on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and he spent the second half of the previous season with the Championship side. He made 18 appearances for the London club across all competitions and contributed two goals from his defensive position.

Tanganga, 25, is now wanted by Neil Harris’ men on a permanent deal and they have apparently agreed a deal to sign

It seems like Tanganga is in discussions for personal terms after impressing during his loan spell at Millwall. His future at his parent club is uncertain as he has slipped down the pecking order in the Premier League.

According to The Mirror, other teams besides Millwall are showing interest in Tanganga, although the specific clubs have not been disclosed yet.

Millwall’s move for Tanganga during the winter transfer window was notable, and he made a positive impact during his time at The Den. Despite Millwall facing relegation concerns in the second tier, they managed to secure their place in the league after bringing Neil Harris back from Cambridge United to replace Joe Edwards.

Tanganga boosted their defensive department and tightened up their backline. His switch there gave him the chance to get some regular game time under his belt and boost his confidence levels.

Snapping him up permanently would be a great move by Millwall if they are able to strike a deal with him. It would be a big statement of intent as they prepare for the next campaign.

The former England Under-21 international has been on the books at Spurs for his whole career to date and rose up through their various youth levels.

He has played 50 times for their first-team so far but hasn’t featured for them since 2023.

The Hackney-born man also had a temporary spell away at Augsburg in Germany during the first-half of this past term but didn’t feature at all for the Bundesliga outfit.

What next for Millwall?

Millwall were too close to the relegation zone for comfort in the 2023/24 season and will be aiming to finish higher up next time.

Securing the signature of Tanganga would certainly boost their chances of success and would make others take notice.

They need to bat away competition from other sides though if they are to bring him back.
