Millwall Boss Reveals Transfer Stance Amidst Rumoured Signings

Neil Harris has emphasized that there will be numerous new additions at The Den this summer as he aims to rebuild the squad for the upcoming season.

Now in his second stint as manager, Harris has the full support of the fans after a strong finish to the 2023/24 season. Returning in February after Joe Edwards’ dismissal, the former striker achieved eight wins and two draws in 13 games.

This impressive run lifted the Lions from relegation trouble to a mid-table finish, ultimately securing a respectable 13th place after winning their final five matches. With the squad performing well under Harris, there is plenty of optimism for the next term.

However, it is set to be a summer of change at The Den, with many signings anticipated. Harris, 46, has not hidden the fact that improvements are needed across the pitch and appears to have a plan in place.

They seem close to securing their first summer signing after news on Wednesday that Japhet Tanganga was released by Tottenham Hotspur. The defender, who excelled at Millwall, is rumored to be a target. Now available on a free transfer, he could return to play for the Lions next season.

Harris aims to strengthen several positions this summer, as he explained to the Southwark News.

“We’ve identified players in the five or six positions we need to strengthen. We always have players in mind and prioritize them. We have plan A, plan B, plan C, and so on. Players and other clubs have their preferences.

“The Championship is always a competitive market. We also have to consider if a player decides to leave for personal reasons, which presents another challenge. Unexpected departures mean we might need to find additional players. These are common challenges for any club’s recruitment team during a transfer window.”

Harris appears ambitious about his plans for the new season despite a strong finish last term. He knows he has the full backing of the club and the fans due to his history with the Lions. With good recruitment this summer, they could progress even further.

The signing of Tanganga, who is available on a free transfer, seems imminent. His arrival in January previously improved Millwall’s defense significantly. Now, with Harris and Tanganga potentially teaming up again, the club could be aiming for a play-off spot next season.
