Millwall head coach Neil Harris has given his verdict on Casper De Norre’s first season in English football.
The Lions signed the midfielder from OH Leuven in late July.
De Norre, 27, made 32 Championship appearances – 22 of those starts – and scored his first goal in the final day victory at Swansea City.
He missed eight games with an achilles injury that also affected his lower calf, before Harris was appointed boss in February.
“It’s been a strange season for Casper,” Harris told the South London Press.
“He came to England with real excitement – coming into a team that has just missed out on the play-offs – and he has worked under three different head coach and, probably, three very different characters.
“He has been in the team, he’s been back out of the team and then in and out…it’s not easy for a player to find continuity during that period.
“Ultimately from what I understand his form was very good for the first half of the season, before he got injured. When I came in he clearly wasn’t back up to speed and it was easy for me to go with Sav (George Saville) and Bill (Mitchell) because I know them so well and what attributes they would bring to the team.
“Casper was naturally frustrated – understanding, but frustrated. He wanted to play but knew he wasn’t quite 100 per cent there yet.
“He has had to bide his time, train well and be a good pro, which he has been – then take his opportunity when it comes.
“To perform the last couple of games like he has is testament to his desire and character to want to be a Millwall player. To score the goal and play so well (against Swansea) was pivotal for him.
“I’ve said the team go away in a good place and will come back confident – it’s the same with Casper.”
