During the Dolphins’ 30-0 demolition of the Jets on Sunday, head coach of Miami correctly anticipated that the team would need just one play to reach the end zone. He called for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to take it home right before the receiver recorded a 60-yard touchdown grab.
McDaniel stated, “I’m really visualizing the one-play drive here,” as demonstrated on “Hard Knocks.”
About midway through the second quarter, the Dolphins launched a drive at their own 40-yard line and took a 10-0 lead over the Jets.
Tyreek Hill, the team’s star receiver, was not present on Sunday. McDaniel said to him, “I’m having a hard time not visualizing a one-play drive here.”
McDaniel is then heard saying, although it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when the words were made, “If we get kick coverage, Waddle’s going to have a one-play drive here. Indeed, hehe. It’s finally here.
Waddle took his position on the left side of the field for the play, racing past Jets CB D.J. Reed to receive a wonderfully placed pass from Tua Tagovailoa.
The former first-round selection coasted into the end zone after Reed erred on a deflection, giving the Dolphins a 16-0 lead.
Jim Nantz of CBS remarked, “What a perfect pass, play, and touchdown to Jaylen Waddle.”
With that touchdown, any chance of a Jets comeback was all but eliminated, and the Dolphins finished the series sweep.

In a game that has playoff implications this Sunday against the Cowboys, McDaniel and the Dolphins will need to make some huge plays once more.
