Manly’s outside back injury problems persist

After Jason Saab’s six-week absence due to injury, another setback hits the Manly Sea Eagles as recruit Tommy Talau is set to join him on the sidelines. Talau, signed from the Wests Tigers, suffered an ankle injury during his debut for the Sea Eagles, replacing Saab on the left wing.

Talau will undergo scans to assess the severity of the injury, with potential recovery times ranging from 1-3 weeks if it heals quickly to 1-2 months if it requires more extensive treatment, according to NRL Physio.

Manly’s coach Anthony Seibold confirmed Talau’s MRI appointment for the following day, acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding the nature of the injury, whether it’s a dislocation or a fracture.

If Talau is unable to play in the upcoming match, Raymond Tuaimalo Vaega is expected to take his place against the Parramatta Eels on Sunday afternoon.

The match also saw Sydney Roosters’ Luke Keary leaving the field for a HIA (Head Injury Assessment), potentially marking his seventh concussion in the NRL. The Roosters are yet to provide an update on his condition as he exited the game close to its end.

In the event of Keary’s absence, the Roosters may field the halves pairing of Sandon Smith and Sam Walker. While Smith has been utilized as a utility player this season, he has experience in the starting halves from the previous season.

The vacant interchange position could be contested between Zach Dockay-Clay and Tyler Moriarty to provide support to the playmakers in case of injuries during the match against arch-rivals South Sydney Rabbitohs.
