Karim Benzema is not coming to Manchester United in an attempt to aid them with their goal-scoring woes.

The 36-year-old former Real Madrid striker has been linked to United, as Erik ten Hag’s team struggles to score. But United have not approached Benzema’s representation about a move to Old Trafford, given to his age and earnings estimated at £86million-a-season.

Only six months ago did Benzema sign with Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League, ending his illustrious 14-year career with Real Madrid. But after missing the team’s preseason training camp, the former France striker and manager Marcelo Gallardo had a falling out.

Gallardo informed the five-time Champions League winner that he was not allowed to go with the team, therefore the team left for Dubai without Benzema. Benzema, who finished with 12 goals in 20 games for Al-Ittihad, is thought to be eager to go back to Europe despite his unclear future.

Real-time Manchester United transfer news: Ten Hag “plots sensational Benzema move,” Martial given a new path outAndre Onana’s three-hour travel to the AFCON opener is caused by a stalled private plane.

Ten Hag’s club is among the lowest scoring teams in the Premier League this season with 24 goals from 21 games, therefore United wants to add a striker on loan this month. While Anthony Martial has battled to find consistency or fitness and is now out injured, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund have had difficulty scoring goals on a consistent basis.

Financial Fair Play regulations limit United to short-term agreements, but this month they are looking into the loan market in hopes of bringing someone in on a temporary basis. Ten Hag said earlier this month that “you always have to consider such choices.”

“These are two excellent loans once more; Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst were crucial to our accomplishments the previous year.We must seize these possibilities when they present themselves.

“At the same time, you have to analyse what we have on board, what is coming up.” Even temporarily, United does not consider the seasoned forward to be a realistic alternative, even in light of Benzema’s possible availability.
