Man United transfer news LIVE – Raphinha ‘offer’, Cole Palmer update, late midfielder move
Hello and welcome to the MEN’s Manchester United live transfer blog on Friday, January 30.
The end of the January transfer window is nearly upon us and United are expected to be busy in the final few days. Transfer business could still happen at Old Trafford before Monday’s February 2 deadline.
Despite a quiet window so far, United have been linked with some big moves in the last couple of weeks. Cole Palmer is the big name after reports suggested the Chelsea star was homesick.
Recently, Barcelona’s Raphinha has emerged as a new target. The switch to a back four means United are expected to prioritise more attackers in the summer, with a new left winger needed.
On the pitch, we’ll hear from Michael Carrick today ahead of United’s Premier League clash against Fulham. After beating Manchester City and Arsenal in their last two games, United will be hoping to cement their Champions League hopes.
Manchester United scouts were in Germany to watch potential transfer target Nathaniel Brown.
The Eintracht Frankfurt defender played the full 90 minutes as his side were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League. Brown, 22, has been on the radar of Arsenal and Manchester City, but TeamTALK understands United are also interested in him.
The German is understood to be valued at around £40million. United have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as options at left-back, with Patrick Dorgu now considered to be a wide forward.
Roberto De Zerbi is said to be at risk of being sacked by Marseille in the wake of their early exit from the Champions League – just weeks after being touted as a contender for the Manchester United job.
Sport claim that talks are even underway with a view to announcing the Italian’s departure, such is the anger over Marseille’s chastening 3-0 defeat by Club Brugge on Wednesday night; a result which ended the club’s hopes of reaching the play-off round.
Tyrell Malacia is being linked to a number of clubs over a potential loan move in the latter stages of January.
According to Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof, the Manchester United defender has interest from Serie A and Turkiye. It has also been stated that a move to the MLS is a ‘concrete option’, though no agreement has been reached yet.
Reports had earlier stated that he was due to hold talks with Michael Carrick over his future. He has been an unused substitute for his two victories in charge.
I have seen the impact as soon as I got here. I was obviously here so I saw him [Fernandes] in close quarters. He had a huge impact straightaway and in so many ways.
You could see the passion, you could see how much he wanted to do well. Straightaway you could see the quality and that has carried on all the way through.
His consistency of performances and level of performances, his willingness to always put himself out there and being physically capable to do it.
There is a lot to credit him for, in that respect. Of course, we all want to win things, we all want to get better and to improve as a team, we want to be successful and that is something we want to work towards together but Bruno has been fantastic since I have been here, he was fantastic when I was here before. Nothing but good things to say about him.
Let’s not get too far ahead. We are working towards this game and we are talking about the window now and it is closing in a few days.
That is on the agenda a little bit but my main agenda is getting through the game with Fulham on Sunday and Bruno is fully committed.
No issues at all with that. Things further down the line will be addressed towards the end of the season. Everything is positive at the moment and there is no reason to be anything otherwise.
River Plate’s Lautaro Rivero has emerged as a defensive target for Man United, but the Argentine side have slapped a €100m release clause into his contract.
Strasbourg, Tottenham, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also interested. Rivero can play as a centre-back and left-back.
Man United are reportedly interested in Real Betis defender Natan, but are currently behind Chelsea in the race for his signature.
Real Madrid, Arsenal and Newcastle are all keeping tabs on the situation. It’s said that the Brazilian would prioritise staying in Spain.
Loans for United’s academy talents are progressing with French journalist Marc Mechenoua claiming Sekou Kone is close to joining FC Lausanne in Switzerland.
Kone joined United in the summer of 2024 but has made just four appearances this season with a facial injury causing him to miss a large chunk of action for the under-21s.
Tyler Fredricson will remain at Manchester United for the remainder of the season.
According to PA journalist Simon Peach, the 20-year-old was of loan interest to several Championship and Belgian Pro League clubs, but a calf injury has scuppered any chance of a temporary switch.
The defender, who came on for the final two minutes of the 1-0 win over Newcastle United, is set to miss around four weeks.
One player who has seemingly turned down the chance to join Manchester United is striker Kadar Meite, who is now set to join Ruben Neves at Al Hilal.
Fabrizio Romano has stated they have reached an agreement with Rennes, worth around €30million (£26m), despite several approaches from the Premier League.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Man United target Ruben Neves is at the final stages in agreeing a new long-term contract with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.
A three-year deal is advancing meaning a move to Old Trafford will become unlikely.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown has reportedly been scouted by Man United, according to TEAMtalk.
The report claims that United had scouts in attendance to watch the left-back in action against Tottenham on Wednesday night. It’s said that Frankfurt anticipate he will leave at the end of the season.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are both interested in taking Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot, though it remains to be seen whether they will make a move or not.
The full-back is out of contract until 2028 with United holding an option to extend his stay.
Manchester United have yet to begin talks over extending Maguire’s contract, which expires on June 30, as per Tutto Mercato.
The club are assessing their options, with the defender said to be earning around £7million per season and any renewal likely to require a substantial financial commitment.
Sports Boom report that Man United are interested in Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim.
The club are said to have scouted him extensively during a recent international tournament, with the player valued at around €55million (£48m).
United’s recruitment team reportedly believe he could be the final piece needed to complete their attack.
RB Leipzig are demanding at least €100m (£87m) for Yan Diomande this summer, with that figure potentially rising to €120m (£104m).
United are keen on the forward but a move this January has been ruled out.
The Manchester Evening News understands that Rhys Bennett is in talks to join Fleetwood Town on a permanent deal.
Bennett spent last season on loan at the club and early discussions have taken place for him to return. It’s understood that he could move on loan with a clause that will become permanent.
A strange one here. Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann has confirmed that Bradford Ciy have signed Manchester United striker Ethan Wheatley ahead of their game this weekend.
He said: “They’ve signed Ethan Wheatley, if he’s available for the game, gets announced today or tomorrow we’ll see.”
A HUGE story coming out of Spain.
El Nacional have reported that Man United are prepared to make an offer of £82.4million to sign Barcelona winger Raphinha. Liverpool are also keen.
Man United are debating making a late move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes before the January transfer window slams shut, according to .
The report suggests that the Brazilian is open to completing a transfer this month. United have been linked with a move for Gomes for some time.
