Anthony Martial’s agent for Manchester United has made it clear that the Frenchman has been out of commission for a few weeks due to a hip issue.
Since early December, the 28-year-old has not appeared on the field for the Red Devils. Manager Erik ten Hag first claimed to be absent due to illness before stating that he must get healthy.
Agent Philippe Lamboley has recently revealed to Sky Sports that Martial is not alone in the first team and that he gets along well with Ten Hag.
He continued by saying that the striker would have a little operation to address the hip problem, which has been bothering him for the previous few weeks. He acknowledged that it ought to have been completed sooner.
“What is said about him is wholly untrue,” he declared. He didn’t feel left out of the group, and he gets along well with the coach, Erik ten Hag. Anthony has spent nine seasons with Manchester United, and he would not have stayed for as long if he weren’t a superb professional.
“He’s just going to have a minor procedure on his adductors, which he should have done a while ago and which prevented him from being 100%, so he will do it now.”
Lamboley continued by reiterating that Martial will remain for the balance of his contract, which expires in June, and that he will not be leaving during the winter transfer window.
Since early December, the £36 million acquisition has not appeared in a game for the Red Devils. The fact that he hasn’t had surgery before surprises me. He has not benefited from the delay.
June 30 is the end of his contract, and United has chosen not to activate a one-year extension. The game could have been his last for United if he takes a long time to heal from surgery.
The Frenchman’s professional journey has followed Paul Pogba’s. Pogba’s final season was marred by injuries, and he missed the majority of it before signing a free transfer.
With Martial, hopefully, that won’t be the case. In the last stretch of the season, as the Red Devils attempt to secure a spot in Europe, some supporters will be hoping he can contribute.
