Luton boss issues statement on Ross Barkley future

England international has reportedly been interesting a number of Premier League clubs

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards remains hopeful that star midfielder Ross Barkley will continue to wear the Luton shirt next season, despite the club’s impending relegation from the Premier League. Barkley, who joined Luton as a free agent after leaving Nice, has been a key player for the Hatters, demonstrating resilience and consistent performance since overcoming an early injury.

Barkley has indicated his ambition to stay in the Premier League and play in Europe again, with Manchester United among the clubs reportedly interested in him. However, he has also expressed a strong attachment to the close-knit team environment at Luton. Edwards emphasized that Barkley’s future is not yet decided and that the club hopes to retain him as they aim for an immediate return to the Premier League. Edwards acknowledged the reality of potential departures but stressed the club’s commitment to maintaining a strong squad for next season.

Barkley has become a fan favorite, earning multiple awards including Fans’ Player of the Year, Player of the Season, Signing of the Season, and Junior Supporters’ Player of the Season. Edwards believes the support and recognition from fans could influence Barkley’s decision to stay.

Unfortunately, Barkley will miss Luton’s final match against Fulham due to a calf injury sustained during the 3-1 defeat to West Ham. Defender Reece Burke is also out with an Achilles injury. Despite these setbacks, Edwards remains focused on building a strong team for the next season, with hopes that Barkley will be part of it.
