The bitter and unexpected news that West Ham United and longtime Liverpool managerial target Ruben Amorim are in talks was a blow to the Reds.
Although the East Londoners deserve all the respect in the world, they don’t have the same background or history as the Anfield group, so it’s an intriguing development if Amorim finds himself drawn to them.
Since the 39-year-old has no compelling reason to move down south, it suggests that the Hammers have something up their sleeve that could shock the rest of the Premier League.
Either way, it seems Liverpool is taking their time evaluating the other applicants for the job, and one unexpected name has surfaced.
Liverpool glancing at Thomas Frank
If Amorim decides to move to the London Stadium, Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, is reportedly being seriously considered as a backup plan, according to TeamTalk.
The Dane has proven to be an excellent tactician and man-manager, but the Bees have struggled to avoid relegation for the majority of the 2023–24 season, and their victory over Luton Town over the weekend may have been the final straw that saves them.
Whether he’d be capable of managing a dressing room with much bigger egos than he’s used to too is a moot point at this stage, though should Amorim decide that West Ham will be his next destination, it would seen that Liverpool will intensify their pursuit of Frank.
For now, things appear to be in the very early stages and nothing is confirmed until Ruben Amorim’s position is clarified.
