Jose Mourinho as left-field candidate could sign four former players to get gang back together at Liverpool

Jose Mourinho could sign four former players to get gang back together at Liverpool

Jose Mourinho has been mentioned as left-field candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp instead of Arne Slot.

Jose Mourinho has been proposed as an unexpected candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp.

If Jose Mourinho makes a surprise move to Liverpool next season, he may look to bring some of his former players with him. The Reds are expected to hire Arne Slot, the current manager of Feyenoord, to replace Jurgen Klopp. However, Robbie Fowler is skeptical about Slot’s suitability.

Fowler believes his former club would benefit from hiring an experienced manager like Mourinho instead, saying: “I can see why you’d hire someone like Mourinho. For example, take Real Madrid.

“When Zinedine Zidane left for the second time in 2021, they went with an experienced manager, Carlo Ancelotti. That experience and know-how can undoubtedly benefit a club in transition.

Express Sport explores four potential reunions between Mourinho and Liverpool players if they follow Fowler’s advice.

Fikayo Tomori

Liverpool are expected to sign at least one new central defender when the bidding opens in June. Fikayo Tomori, an AC Milan defender, could be a wise signing for the Reds, especially if Mourinho joins, having progressed through Chelsea’s academy under his management.

Tomori is unlikely to start over Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate, but he could provide Liverpool with additional defensive depth. A move to Anfield could improve his chances of making future England squads if he performs well in the Premier League.

Evan Ndicka

Liverpool may consider signing Roma defender Evan Ndicka if Mourinho makes a surprise move to Anfield. He was linked with the Merseyside giants on a free transfer last summer, but instead joined Roma and played heavily under Mourinho in the first half of the season.

Ndicka, a 24-year-old with room for improvement, could be a valuable backup for Jarell Quansah at Liverpool. He recently collapsed during a match against Udinese, but Roma has cleared him to play football again, with cardiological tests yielding no negative results.

Nicolo Zaniolo

Liverpool has been linked with Nicolo Zaniolo for a long time but has yet to sign him. He joined Aston Villa on loan from Galatasaray last summer, but has struggled to find playing time and is expected to return to Turkey at the end of the season.

Zaniolo has plenty of time to reach his full potential, and Liverpool could be the ideal environment if Mourinho joins. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Galatasaray is willing to sell him for only £17 million, making him a low-risk option for the Reds to replace Thiago Alcantara this summer.

Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham excelled at Roma under Mourinho before suffering a serious knee injury at the end of the previous season. He returned to action last month and scored his first goal of the season against Napoli in Roma’s most recent league match.

Liverpool have plenty of attacking options, including Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz. However, there are still concerns about Mohamed Salah’s long-term future, and Abraham could be an excellent replacement if the Egyptian star departs in the summer.
