FA CUP: Enzo Maresca discloses a blow for Leicester City

Vardy is expected to miss the match at Stamford Bridge tomorrow afternoon.

Jamie Vardy for Leicester City-2

Speaking to his club’s media team, Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that Jamie Vardy will miss tomorrow’s FA Cup match against Chelsea.

The Foxes can advance to the round of eight with a victory at AFC Bournemouth on the road. They are one game away from Wembley.

But, it appears like tomorrow will be a much more difficult test for Leicester, who have already witnessed the Blues go to one significant final this season—the EFL Cup.

Leicester City’s journey to the last eight of the FA Cup
Third Round Millwall (A) – 3-2 W
Fourth Round Birmingham City (H) – 3-0 W
Fifth Round AFC Bournemouth (A) – 1-0 W (AET)

Leicester may not benefit from their defeat to Liverpool in that final, but it will give Mauricio Pochettino’s team a strong incentive to win the second domestic cup.

Similar to the Blues, the Foxes have also won this cup in the past, but with so many elite teams in the running, it’s safe to assume that Maresca’s team is an outsider to win it this time.

The only other Championship team competing in this race is Coventry City, who will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The fact that Newcastle United, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City are the other clubs remaining in the competition emphasizes how tough it will be for teams like Coventry and Leicester to win the cup.

Nonetheless, the Foxes will have hope that they may pull off an upset because Leeds United gave Pochettino’s team a difficult encounter in the previous round.

Leicester City struck out against Jamie Vardy

Vardy has recently been added to the list of Leicester players absent from tomorrow’s match at Stamford Bridge.

Regarding the 37-year-old, Maresca stated: “[Vardy] didn’t train when we played Sunderland away, as I told you at the last press conference.

“He recently completed an action before to the game. He then engaged in the last game. Luckily for us, he scored twice before suffering another injury. It’s a little issue.

“As I’ve stated many times, Jamie Vardy is loved by all of us, but we also can’t forget that he is 37. It’s not a major problem.

“We also have the international break so hopefully we can have all our players back after that.”

Leicester City’s other key players need to step up to the plate

Stephy Mavididi

With his wealth of experience, Vardy would have been a valuable addition, especially after scoring two goals the previous weekend.

However, there are other people who might have an impact.

This season, Patson Daka has shown flashes of brilliance and has the potential to record a goal in the capital of England.

The guy depicted above, Stephy Mavididi, is likewise really gifted and can have a significant impact out wide.

And if the Foxes are promoted to the top tier at the end of this season, Abdul Fatawu, who scored the game-winning goal against Bournemouth in the previous round, will be looking to prove to the team why he should play a big part in the upcoming campaign.
