Sadly Over: Leeds preparing to sell player who Daniel Farke

Leeds United is currently battling for automatic promotion out of the Championship and an immediate return to the Premier League.
As of right now, the Whites are three points ahead of Southampton in fourth place, and the only two points separating them, Leicester, and Ipswich among the top three.

In the last three games of the regular season, Daniel Farke’s team will try to cross the finish line, but before attention can turn to the impending summer transfer window, two teams above them must falter.

Many of Leeds’ senior players are currently on loan; they were shipped out following the club’s Premier League relegation at the end of the previous season, and one player in particular is said to have little chance of staying in Farke’s squad going forward.

Leeds desires to let go of Brenden Aaronson
Football Insider reports that Brenden Aaronson, an international player for the United States, will not be included in Leeds’ squad for the 2024–25 season, regardless of the division the team plays in.

According to the report, the American attacker has no place in the team of the former Norwich City and Borussia Monchengladbach tactician, whether they play in the Premier League or the Championship.

According to the report, if Aaronson and the other loanees don’t get promoted, the Yorkshire-based team will be “desperate” to cash in on them. However, they may also loan them out again if necessary.

It’s unclear how much of the reported £25 million that the Whites paid to acquire the attacking midfield player from Austrian team RB Salzburg will be recovered.

Having joined Union Berlin in the German Bundesliga last summer, he is currently on loan there. However, according to Football Insider, it is unlikely that they will sign him again for the upcoming campaign.

The reasons why Brenden Aaronson isn’t cut out for Leeds

The Leeds loanee has not been able to establish a consistent spot in the starting lineup, so the 23-year-old dud has not had a good season on the field with Union.

During the 2023–24 Bundesliga season, Aaronson, who was once referred to as a “weed” by Jesse Marsch for his explosive growth, has started 10 of his 25 appearances. From an attacking midfield position, he has contributed two goals and zero assists.

This may be the reason the German team is unlikely to pursue a second summer transfer window deal for the American midfield player, who has averaged 9.9 completed passes per game in the league.

The table above illustrates how the £45k-per-week wizard had a disappointing Premier League season following his £25 million transfer from Salzburg.Aaronson has shown that he puts in a lot of effort for his team’s defense over the past 365 days. For Union and Leeds, he is among the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers for blocks (2.16) per 90 and the top 3% for tackles (2.30) per 90.

The midfielder’s lackluster offensive output is evident from the fact that he ranks in the bottom 2% for assists (0.00) per 90 and the bottom 24% for non-penalty goals (0.14) per 90.

Given Aaronson’s lackluster final-third statistics over the previous two seasons, it is not surprising that Farke does not see a place for him in his team and is getting ready to sell him. The Whites should now make every effort to let Aaronson go permanently this summer.
