BREAKING NEWS: Leeds eye Liverpool’s 27-year-old star, regardless of Premier League promotion!

Leeds United want to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips this summer, even if they fail to earn promotion to the Premier League, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported via its print edition [28 April, page 28] that the 27-year-old was on the wish list at Elland Road in January before the plug was pulled on the deal and he went to Cardiff instead.

Now, it is said that his Liverpool future remains unclear as he has two years remaining on his contract at Anfield amid uncertainty over the club’s direction but confessed he wants to play regular football.

Leeds United could sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips this summer

The defender’s future at Anfield is unclear after multiple loan moves away and with Jurgen Klopp likely to be replaced by Arne Slot, calling into question the role many fringe players will play in the new manager’s plans.

With the future of Joe Rodon also unclear at Elland Road, with his loan set to expire at the end of the season and Leeds potentially remaining in the Championship, the club appear to be planning to strengthen the area as a matter of priority.

Phillips has played 17 times in the Championship since arriving on loan at Cardiff in January and helped the Welsh side turn their early-season form around to a point where they now look on track for a mid-table finish.

Leeds United Daniel Farke

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has done an excellent job at Elland Road

He would be a solid addition to Daniel Farke’s side whether or not they earn promotion this season, providing experience not only of the Championship but also higher levels to what has been a solid defensive unit this season.

Having been linked in January and also last summer, it appears Farke and 49ers Enterprises are long-term admirers and could move to finally get a deal done this summer.
