Leeds United are prepared for the unexpected comeback of a player worth £10 million.

Leeds United’s right-back Rasmus Kristensen is expected to make a comeback to Elland Road this summer as AS Roma has surprisingly changed their stance on his future, according to recent reports.

At the start of the 2022/23 season, Kristensen made a move to West Yorkshire from RB Salzburg for £10 million. However, his debut in English football was challenging as Leeds got relegated from the Premier League.

During the previous campaign, Kristensen played 26 games in the top-flight for Leeds under three different managers: Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia, and eventually Sam Allardyce, each with varying tactics, making it hard for the Danish fullback to adapt.

In the summer transfer window, Kristensen was loaned to Roma, where he played under Jose Mourinho until his departure and then under Daniele De Rossi.

In the 2023/24 season, most of his 29 appearances for Roma (21) were under Mourinho’s management, with only eight under De Rossi’s. This shift has altered the outlook on his future.

According to Football Insider, Roma is not looking to extend Kristensen’s loan deal, indicating he is set to return to Leeds United with uncertainty surrounding his future at the English club.

The report also suggests that Kristensen is not part of Daniel Farke’s future plans, potentially leading Leeds to consider selling him elsewhere, possibly to Roma.

With three years remaining on his contract, Leeds could seek a substantial fee this summer to recoup the £10 million spent on him, marking an unfortunate end to his stint in Rome. Kristensen may now have to find a new club in the upcoming transfer window.
